Gone are the days of buying clothes and shoes to "grow into." At least those days are long gone for me; if you're 12, that might be a different story. I do not envy parents buying expensive clothes for their kids just for them to grow four inches in a year, rendering them completely useless. There was a four-year period where I would grow about that much every year, and the only way I got through it was through a very generous millennial benefactor who gave me all of her hand-me-downs.

When you're an adult, you can hold onto clothes for so much longer. The oldest piece of clothing I still regularly wear I got on my 16th birthday, and I still wear so many pieces I've had since I was 18.
